In 2009 TUSUR established a research and educational center "Nanotechnology". It recreated the whole cycle of production of IC chips, from the drawing broad to a finished product. The purchase of costly equipment for the center was financed by the Russian federal target program.

The heart of the production line is the electron-beam exposure with a resolution of 20 nanometers. This measurement site hosts Russia’s only fully automated complex for probe measurement of microwave circuits. This facility enables researchers to fully characterize elements and construct models based on measurements to design their own circuits. The probe station can measure the parameters of the heterostructures and the elements of integrated circuits to the frequencies of up to 50GHz. Design of monolithic integrated circuits is carried out at the design center. The core research teams that formed this center started at TUSUR more than four years ago. This nanocenter came about as a result of their joint effort.

This know-how is an intelligent automated design system. It allows generation of microwave circuits and device topologies based on the principles of artificial intelligence. Software, with similar capabilities, is not available in Russia or abroad.

The other international projects are: Power systems for space communications for the French Space Agency and equipment for the giant radio telescope in Holland.

In February 2010 a group of technologists/developers from the research and educational center completed world-class work on the development of the gallium arsenide heterostructure transistor.
